Why I Pay Attention to Synchronicities (and How You Can Too)
Introduction
Have you ever thought of someone and then they suddenly call? Or noticed the same number appearing everywhere you look? Those little “coincidences” are synchronicities — meaningful alignments that feel too precise to be random.
For a long time, I brushed them off. But when I began slowing down after leaving corporate, I started noticing them more and more. And the more I paid attention, the more I realized: synchronicities were guiding me.
What Synchronicities Really Are
Carl Jung described synchronicity as “meaningful coincidence.” It’s when external events line up with your internal state in a way that feels significant.
To me, synchronicities are signals from the universe — confirmations that I’m on the right path, or nudges to pay attention when something’s trying to get through.
My Own Experience
In my early days of healing burnout and stepping into this new chapter, synchronicities showed up everywhere.
I’d journal about wanting clarity, then a book or podcast would fall into my lap with the exact words I needed.
I’d feel restless, then a dragonfly would land on me as a reminder to trust transformation.
I’d see repeating numbers like 11:11 or 7:07 during moments of doubt, almost like the universe was whispering: You’re supported.
The more I noticed them, the more they appeared. It felt like I was in constant conversation with life itself.
Of course, not everyone around me saw it that way. My husband would sometimes remind me it was just coincidence, or that I was looking too hard for signs. He’d even point out the idea of “false pattern recognition” — that I was connecting dots where none existed.
But here’s the thing: there comes a time when the volume gets so high you just know it’s no longer coincidence. There’s a knowing within that you weren’t actually looking — something made you glance at a random sign at exactly the right moment. And when the alignments keep happening, again and again, you can no longer deny that something greater is at work.
Awakening at a different pace than my spouse wasn’t always easy. But my trust in the universe — my knowing that it would always lead me to what was most aligned — allowed me to stand strong in my truth, even when it wasn’t shared.
Why Paying Attention Matters
Synchronicities aren’t just fun coincidences — they’re alignment in action. When you notice them:
-
You strengthen trust in your intuition.
-
You feel supported, even in uncertain times.
-
You make choices from alignment instead of fear.
Ignoring synchronicities doesn’t stop them, but noticing them can change everything. It turns the universe from background noise into a guiding partner.
How You Can Start Noticing Synchronicities
-
Slow Down → If you’re always rushing, you’ll miss them. Create quiet space to notice.
-
Journal What You See → Write down repeating numbers, animals, conversations that feel aligned. Over time, patterns will emerge.
-
Ask for Signs → Get intentional. Ask the universe for a specific sign and see what shows up.
-
Trust Your Gut Reaction → If something feels significant, it is. The meaning isn’t random — it’s personal.
-
Say Thank You → Gratitude acknowledges the guidance, and often, more signs follow.
Conclusion
Synchronicities aren’t accidents — they’re reminders that you’re being guided. They connect you to intuition, alignment, and the deeper currents of your life.
The question isn’t whether they’re happening — it’s whether you’ll choose to notice them.
